El Dorado County Office of Education, Placerville, CA

Hello Everyone!
Fall is in the air and EDCOE programs and services have enjoyed a successful beginning of the 2009/10 school year. Lots of activities are taking place in our schools and throughout county! Another Budget Forum is being held for EDCOE employees on September 30. I recently participated in a press conference in regard to the possible closing of the Marshall Gold Discovery State Park. Over 70,000 students from schools all over California take educational field trips to this State Park every year. EDCOE contacted over 400 schools that have participated in field trips to notify them of the possible closure, and requested assistance in the campaign to keep the park open. We remain hopeful. The docents from the Community Observatory were recently honored for all of their efforts at a dinner held on September 9, and a fundraiser to assist with funding for the maintenance of the Observatory is taking place on September 18. Our County Board just approved eight new state charter schools to be admitted to our Charter SELPA and we anticipate the State Board of Education to approve our Charter SELPA from pilot to permanent status.
