Education

Head Start
El Dorado County Head Start programs offer an individualized preschool experience, with a family focus, through two Head Start program options.  Center Based Programs consist of a teacher and an assistant who work with the families for 4 hours per day.  A developmentally appropriate program is individualized to meet the child and families identified needs in the areas of growth, health and nutrition.  Home Based Program consists of a teacher that assists the parent to be the primary teacher of their child.  Together they plan family related activities that are conducted in the home.  Each family is visited once a week.  Head Start programs are a parent participation program that requires twenty hours per month of helping support the program that the child attends.  Parent participation can range from volunteering in the classroom to taking projects home to complete that will enhance the curriculum.  In addition, the home base child attends two socialization days per month, along with other children and families enrolled in the program.

Early Head Start
The Early Head Start Program is designed to serve families who are expecting a child and/or have children ages birth to three.  Teachers meet weekly with families in their homes to promote positive family health and development.  In addition, families attend socialization activities twice a month.  Early Head Start operates on a year round schedule in order to assure continuous, consistent services to families.

State Preschool
State preschool programs provide an enriching experience for children ages 3 years to kindergarten eligible.  El Dorado County Preschool programs provide individualized early education, focusing on school readiness and literacy skill.  Each program operates for 3.5 hours per day Monday through Friday.  Parents are encouraged to become active participants in their child’s preschool education by volunteering in the classroom and participating on Advisory Boards.

Children’s Center
El Dorado County Children’s Center Programs provide services for the children of parents who are working, looking for work or are in training.   Children’s Center Programs serve children ranging in age from birth to kindergarten eligible.  Early care and education services are implemented in an enriched environment and are individualized to meet the needs of each child throughout the day.

Training
El Dorado County Child Development Programs coordinates various trainings throughout the year for teachers, classroom assistants and families.  Families that are interested in attending a training or want more information should contact an Education Coordinator.
